In addition to the Arena AufSchalke, the main attractions in Gelsenkirchen during EURO 2024 will be the Fan Zone in Nordsternpark, the public viewing area in the Amphitheater and the two fan meeting points at Heinrich-König-Platz in the city centre and Domplatte in Buer. On Friday 14 June, for example, many thousands of people will flock to Nord-Sternpark for the opening of the EURO to celebrate the opening of the Fan Zone with top act MEDUZA and the opening match between Germany and Scotland in the Amphitheater. Two days later (16 June), many English and Serbian fans will come to Gelsenkirchen to watch their teams play.

As parking facilities in the entire city area will be limited during the EURO, fans are strongly advised to travel to all EURO-related events by public transport rather than by car.

To ensure that everyone can get to and from the event easily, regular transport services will be increased, especially on match days, and additional shuttle lines will be set up.

Increased regular services

Line 302 will be reinforced on match days and will run between Gelsenkirchen main station and Gelsenkirchen-Buer every 2 minutes from 4 hours before the start of the match and after the match. If necessary, additional trains will be used from GE main station to continue the journey in the direction of Bochum.

Line 107 E will also run directly from the Arena to Essen main station. The trains will run until approx. 2 hours after the end of the match.

In the direction of Bottrop, the Vestische operates additional electric vehicles on lines 249, L222 and SB 91 on match days. Line 260 runs from Bottrop central bus station to the Nordsternpark stop and will be reinforced if necessary. The SB 36 also stops at Nordsternpark.

How do I get to the stadium and back?

From Gelsenkirchen-Buer as well as from Gelsenkirchen main station, the Arena AufSchalke is served on match days by line 302 from four hours before the start of the match and after the match every two minutes.

In addition, a shuttle bus will run from the Nordsternpark fan zone to the Arena AufSchalke on match days. The frequency will be set according to demand.

Tram line 107 E (only on match day 16 June) will run every 10 minutes from the Trabrennbahn fan meeting point to the arena. If necessary, additional buses will be deployed.

How do I get to the Fan Zone in Nordsternpark and to the public viewing in the Amphitheater?

On all opening days of the Fan Zone, shuttle bus line 1 runs from the Gelsenkirchen main railway station bus platform 1 to Nordsternpark. From there it is only a short walk to the Fan Zone and the public viewing in the Amphitheater. At peak times, shuttle bus line 1 runs every 3 minutes, otherwise every 10 minutes or so.

The Fan Zone can also be reached from the direction of Essen on the U11 underground line or on line 301 from Buer or Gelsenkirchen main station (to Schloss Horst stop). From there, you can either walk or take lines 260, 383, SB 36 or the shuttle bus to the Nordsternpark stop. The shuttle buses will run from approx. 12.30 p.m. onwards.

Line 301 will also be extended on match days between Buer Rathaus and Gelsenkirchen-Horst and will also run every 7.5 minutes on Sundays. The U11 will extend its operating times on match days until 0.30 a.m. in the direction of Essen Hbf. (every 30 minutes).

How do I get to the Fan Meeting Point Trabrennbahn?

The Fan Meeting Point Trabrennbahn can be reached on the Serbia-England match day (16 June) from Essen main station between 12 noon and 6 p.m. with line 107 every 10 minutes.

From Gelsenkirchen main station, line 107 will run to the Fan Meeting Point Trabrennbahn every 10 minutes until 5 p.m., from 5 p.m. onwards exclusively with shuttle buses. From 12 noon, additional shuttle buses will run from Husemannstraße.

After the match, tram line 107 E will run from the Trabrennbahn to Essen main station. There will also be shuttle buses to Gelsenkirchen main station and Essen main station.

Further important information

EURO ticket holders do not need to purchase an additional public transport ticket, it is included in the ticket. Anyone travelling without a EURO ticket must buy a ticket. The VRR transport regulations with the corresponding ticket prices apply to scheduled services and shuttle buses. Information about the departure times of the shuttle buses will be entered into the Muttis eTafrif app as soon as they are in operation. Tickets can also be purchased directly via the app. The operating time for all transport services ends at 01:00. If necessary, the journey times of the shuttle services can also be extended beyond this time.

During the EURO, a special EURO line will run beyond the city limits of Gelsenkirchen as an additional booster line, connecting the four EURO host cities of Cologne, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen and Dortmund at hourly intervals. Due to the expected concentrated departures after the matches, a further 14 special regional trains (RE2, RE3, and RB35) and an additional ICE connection will be offered from Gelsenkirchen main station between 11.30 pm and 2.30 am on match days in addition to the regular services and the special EURO line.

The journeys of the special services can be called up via the timetable information systems of DB and the transport companies.
